Depleted uranium found in Gaza victims

Medics tell Press TV they have found traces of depleted uranium in some Gaza residents wounded in Israel’s ground offensive on the strip.

Norwegian medics told Press TV correspondent Akram al-Sattari that some of the victims who have been wounded since Israel began its attacks on the Gaza Strip on December 27 have traces of depleted uranium in their bodies.

The report comes after Israeli tanks and troops swept across the border into Gaza on Saturday night, opening a ground operation after eight days of intensive attacks by Israeli air and naval forces on the impoverished region.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak warned on Sunday that the wide-ranging ground offensive in the Gaza Strip would be “full of surprises.”

A ground offensive in the densely-populated Gaza is expected to drastically increase the death toll of the civilian population.

The latest assaults bring the number of Palestinians killed to over 488 with 2790 others wounded. The UN says that about 25 percent of the casualties were civilian deaths – including at least 34 children.

According to Israeli army officials, at least 30 of its soldiers have been wounded since the start of the ground campaign.

Amid global condemnation of the ongoing violence in the region, the UN Security Council failed to agree on a united approach to resolve the crisis.

” Once again, the world is watching in dismay the dysfunctionality of the Security Council,” UN General Assembly chief Miguel d’Escoto said Sunday.

According to diplomatic sources, the US blocked a Security Council resolution, with US Deputy Ambassador Alejandro Wolff arguing that an official statement that criticizes both Israel and Hamas would not be helpful.

The White House has so far declined to comment on whether an Israeli ground incursion into Gaza is a justified measure.

The Closing of the American Border

American Border

American Border

After the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the government seemed to put forth a unified stance on the need to combat terror. But you say in your book that there was actually a fierce internal fight between two groups – you call them The Cops versus The Technocrats. Who are they?

Indeed, this fight began the very night of 9/11. Jim Ziglar, who was the head of Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) at the time, was strongly opposed to what the Ashcroft Justice Department did after 9/11, which was to use immigration laws aggressively as a counter-terrorism tool, to hold people on immigration violations if they believed they had even the slightest connection to terrorism.

There was one faction that said, “Look, we need to use immigration law aggressively as our main tool in the war on terrorism.” Another group of people, most of them under Tom Ridge in the White House, and later the Department of Homeland Security, said, “Look, if we do that, all we’re going to succeed in doing is driving away people that we want and need to come to the United States. We need to be more targeted and intelligent about how we strengthen our border after 9/11.”

You quote George W. Bush saying to his customs chief, “You’ve got to secure our borders against a terror threat, but you have to do it without shutting down the U.S. economy.” How did the ones who were all for using immigration law win out?

The ones who wanted to strengthen border controls intelligently knew what they wanted to do, but it was a long process. You needed to develop new systems to identify more accurately who was coming into the United States and who you had reason to be concerned about.

The people in the Justice Department who wanted to use immigration law didn’t need to wait. Immigration law is an incredibly powerful tool for arresting and detaining any foreigner. One of the officials that I interviewed said, “Immigration law is like tax law – you’re guilty until proven innocent.”

Ahmadinejad – Larry King: Iran opens door to ‘friendly’ US relations

IR Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

IR Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Iran’s president says he is interested in ‘friendly’ relation with Washington, regardless of who is in charge of the White House.

In an interview with CNN’s Larry King Live, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he is willing to meet with both US presidential candidates, Senators Barack Obama and John McCain but had no preference between the two.

“We believe that these are issues relating to the domestic affairs of the United States. And decisions pertaining to that must be made by the American people,” he said.

When asked whether Obama’s proposal to meet would interest him, Ahmadinejad said he does not rely on the promises candidates make in the ‘campaign period’.

“(During this time,) anyone can say anything. So we disregard that. What matters is that once someone is in office, we have to watch and see if that person will bring about some changes in policy or continue the same old path,” he expounded.

A Practical confrontation between Russia and America

Russia and America are on the path to a major confrontation as a result of Georgia’s attack on South Ossetia and Moscow’s response. This situation does not only affect Georgia, but it effects the wider area of the Caucus and the International scene. In this situation the two countries (America and Russia) are trying to present a new form of confrontation with each other by using other countries.

The United States has had the plan for a missile shield for a long time and put Georgia at war as an excuse to speed up the process. The result of this was that Poland accepted America’s strategy of a missile shield giving more kudos to America. A few days ago America and Poland’s foreign ministers signed a deal implementing America’s missile shield plan – taking the first serious step towards confrontation with Russia. American officials in the Pentagon and White House officially stated that these measures were taken in order to confront the threats by the Russian military.

In order to confront this, Russia who had similar plans, announced its plan to put a missile defense system in Syria. While the west and the Zionist regime put pressure on Damascus in any way that they can, the Russia president, being invited by Bashar Asad, the Syian president, officially announced their clear confrontation with the west on the same day as Poland and America signed their deal.

Brzezinski: McCain would start WWIV

Sat, 26 Jul 2008 22:26:50

Former White House national security adviser says if John McCain becomes the next US president the world will move toward World War IV.

Former US President Jimmy Carter’s national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski criticized US officials in Senator McCain’s camp for pushing the presumptive Republican nominee toward a radical foreign policy on issues such as Iran.

Brzezinski described McCain’s presidency as an ‘appalling concept’ as it would lead to the World War IV, arguing that from the viewpoint of figures surrounding the Arizona senator the Cold War counted as World War III.

“Well, if McCain is president and if his Secretary of State is Joe Lieberman and his Secretary of Defense is [Rudolph] Giuliani, we will be moving towards the World War IV that they have been both favoring and predicting,” Brzezinski cautioned.

Earlier in October 2007, President George W. Bush, who has endorsed John McCain, warned of the eruption of World War III should Iran continue uranium enrichment.

‘The US is not a republic anymore’

Press TV:We hear that Michael Mukasey is going to become the latest of the President’s Attorney-Generals to be subpoenaed, this time over his conversations with Bush and Cheney – does this show that Congress is serious about calling the executive to account?

Gore Vidal: No, Congress has never been more cowardly, nor more corrupt. All Bush has do is to make sure certain amounts of money go in the direction of certain important congressmen and that’s end of any serious investigation. After all, one of the bravest members of Congress is Denis Kucinich who brought the article of impeachment in to the well of the House of Representatives. The House of Representatives must then try the president, and then after that it goes to the Senate for judgment. However, none of these things will happen because there’s nobody there except for Mr. Kucinich who has the courage to take on a sitting president who is kind of a Mafioso.

Press TV: How can it just be one person among so many hundreds of Congressmen who wants the impeachment of George W. Bush in these circumstances?

Gore Vidal: Well it’s because we no longer have a country. We don’t have a republic any more. During the last 7 or 8 years of the Bush regime, they’ve got rid of the Bill of Rights, they’ve got rid of habeas corpus. They have got rid of one of the nicest gifts that England ever left us when they went away and we ceased to be colonies – the Magna Carta – from the 12th century. All of our law and due process of law is based on that. And the Bush people got rid of it. The president and little Mr. Gonzales who for a few minutes was his Attorney General. They managed to get rid of all of the constitutional links that made us literally a republic.

Press TV: You have often written about the US’s superpower status in terms of the history of previous superpowers. Do you think we’re witnessing the end of US power as some suggest. Will the White House be seen like Persepolis?

Qoutes from Imam Khomeini

The principle slogan of the Islamic Republic

“The slogan ‘Not the east, not the west’ was the principle slogan of the Islamic revolution in the world of hunger and the impoverished. This is the established principle of Islamic nations and countries who, in the near future and with the help of Allah, will accept Islam as the only ideology leading to salvation – and they will not go back from this principle in the least.”

Sahifah Noor, v.20, p.114 (1987)

The arrogant powers of the world are falling

“Muslims are not scared of the hollow commotion from the oppressive media. The castles, military, and political wings of the arrogant powers of the world are like spider-webs: weak and falling.”

Sahifah Noor, v.20, p.114 (1987)

Correcting the leaders of the Islamic world

“Muslims must think about training, controlling, and correcting the leaders of some countries. They must use advice or warnings to wake them up from their expensive sleep which is killing them and the interests of the Islamic nation. They must not be unaware of the danger of the hypocrites and those who work for the arrogant powers of the world. They should not sit on their hands and watch the destruction of Islam and the usurpation of their capitol, interests, and Islamic women.”

Sahifah Noor, v.20, p.114 (1987)

Facing the people who are after the world

“I will announce to the whole world with certainty that if those who are after the world want to face us in matters of religion we will stand up to their whole world. We will not sit until all of them are killed; until all of us are free or until we reach a larger freedom – martyrdom.”

Sahifah Noor, v.20, p.118 (1987)

Negation of immunity for Americans

With our whole existence we will stop the spread of immunity for Americans even if it means a serious war.

Sahifah Noor, v.20, p.232 (1988)

Changing the capitalist world

“Elite Muslims must diligently travel the road of changing the capitalist world and communism with their knowledge. All people after freedom must choose to slap the face of world powers, especially America, over slapping the people’s face who have been slapped in the Islamic world and the rest of the world.”

Sahifah Noor, v.20, p.118 (1987)

Islam will make the world powers abased

“I say with surety that Islam will make the world powers abased. Islam will remove huge obstacles both internally and externally and will overtake key positions in the world.”

Sahifah Noor, v.20, p.118 (1987)

There is no other path except war with America

“If Muslims do not seriously solve their issues with those who are after the world, or at least if they do not become a strong power in the world there will be problems. Right now, if America destroys an Islamic country with the excuse of protecting its interests who would stand up to him? There is no other path except fighting. The claws and teeth of the world powers, especially America, must be broken.”

Sahifah Noor, v.20, p.233 (1988)

The war between truth and falsehood

“Today the war between truth and falsehood; the war between the rich and the poor; the war between the weak and the arrogant; the war between the naked and the clothed has started. I kiss the hands of all who have stood up to fight throughout the world in the path of Allah and in the path of giving dignity to the Muslims. I give my sincere greetings to the free sparrows, to the dear nation, and those who love Iran.”

Sahifah Noor, v.20, p.234 (1988)

The world is thirsty for Pure Islam

“Today the world is thirsty for pure Islamic culture and the Muslims in a huge movement will quickly take over the white and red houses.”

Sahifah Noor, v.20, p.235 (1988)

There will be fighting as long as there is polytheism

“Our goal is to implement Islamic international goals in the world of poverty and hunger. We say that there will be fighting as long as there is polytheism and disbelief and as long as there is a fight we will be there. We do not have any [beef] between any city or nation. We have decided to raise the flag of ‘La ilaha ilallah.’”

Sahifah Noor, v.20, p.236 (1988)
